Awards and Accomplishments

Peruvian Environmental Awards
April 2000 - Quiruvilca Mine received first prize for environmental management in the category of polymetallic deposits from OLAMI (Organization of Latin American Mining)

Quiruvilca competed against much larger companies, some with ISO 14000 certification.

OLAMI: Organizacion Latinoamericana de Mineria includes members from 15 countries and was founded in 1985 to facilitate progressive development in geology, mining and metallurgy in Latin American and Caribbean regions.

December 1999 - Quiruvilca Mine received the Award of Environmental Effort in the mining sector from Sociedad Nacional de Mineria Petroleo y Energia (SNMPE) for rehabilitation of the Rio Moche, one of Peru's major rivers.

December 1997 - Quiruvilca Mine received an award from SNMPE for successful rehabilitation and restoration of the historic Almirvilca tailings facility, the first such tailings reclamation in Peru.

Mexican Environmental Awards
August 1999 - La Colorada project received the Award of Environmental Merit from Camera Minera de Mexico (CAMIMEX)

La Colorada had the lowest ranking of the 30 projects competing but was the only development project to be rated (the remainder are in production), and the only entity with less than a one-year record of Health, Safety and Environment experience.
